ED'S MINIATURE CARNIVAL

The carnival began after I retired, I have always wanted to build little model steam engines. In the beginning I bought a few kits and put them together. I started showing them at Farm Shows and found that I needed something more to run with them to draw attention. A marvelous idea for carnival rides came to mind, so I built a small ride and people started coming to see the engines and the rides.

People ask me a lot what scale my carnival is since most things are a precise scale to real life. I choose to base my little carnival on a 2 foot diameter circle, which makes it slightly larger then G-Scale. For figures to put in the rides and around the steam engine I found GI Joe figures and other toys that places like McDonald's gives away to be just a perfect size for the rides. To power in the beginning everything was ran off of steam. As time went by the carnival grew and steam went away.

Now I have 12 carnival rides and my family is involved with the carnival. My wonderful family has joined me and we showed the carnival at the Nebraska State Fair in the Industrial Arts Building for several years. We no longer run on steam as we did in the beginning. Now the rides run on compressed air and small electric motors. All the rides except the roller coaster are scratch build instead of using kits that one would buy in a store. And the last ride the roller coaster is not really a kit but rather a children's K'nex toys set. Unfortunately the carnival is no longer on display and has not been on display recently, but may be shown again sometime in the future.
